Twitter Launches Discounts

Your Twitter account can now help you save money. On Tuesday the company has launched Twitter offers, which let marketers run promotions like discounts that you can redeem via your credit card. If a Twitter Offer pops up in your timeline, now you can add the Offer to your credit card or debit card. When you click to buy the item, the discount will be applied, though the cash back won't show up for a few days.

When you click on the offer to redeem then you are redirected to a landing page where users have to enter their credit or debit card info.

Twitter Launches Discount on Credit Cards

Once you enter your card information, Twitter has it on hand so you can redeem future offers without that hassle. (Having your data also helps Twitter push its "Buy" button.)

For Advertisers and marketers, Twitter offers provides a way to track ROI for Twitter-based promotions. If 50 people redeem an Offer, for instance, they can work out how much they spent for each redemption.

Yahoo acquires Cooliris

Yahoo a tech giant acquired Photo app-maker Cooliris. More recently, the company shifted focus to a mobile app (also called Cooliris and with an interface reminiscent of the old 3D wall) that allowed users to browse photos from across services like Facebook, Flickr, and Dropbox. The team told me last year that it was seeing particularly rapid growth in Asia thanks to partnerships with companies like Renren, Yandex, and Baidu.

Yahoo

On its website, the company wrote:

"Yahoo has a clear vision and unwavering commitment to making mobile an intuitive and effortless experience."

This makes Yahoo the perfect partner for Cooliris, and we are excited to come together to bring indispensable products to a worldwide audience.
Under CEO Marissa Mayer, Yahoo has indeed talked a lot about its focus on mobile, and just last month it acquired mobile messaging app MessageMe.

Twitter

With new feature update of Twitter where it is letting you directly share public tweets through its private direct messaging system.

If you copy and paste a tweet's URL into a direct message (DM), it will embed itself in the message for easier viewing. You can also hit the "..." icon under a tweet and select "Share via Direct Message."

Twitter DM update

Get your twitter like app ready to share your updates to the world.
 Visit here

Previously, if you tried to paste the URL of a tweet into a DM, it would show up as a link. It saves you a click when privately sharing something in your Twitter feed; the update works on Twitter's web client, iOS and Android apps, and TweetDeck for Chrome, Windows and web.

The move is a part of Twitter's larger effort to update its platform to be more user-friendly; it's not quite as intuitive as Facebook's Messenger app, for example. Earlier this week, a bug prevented people from sharing URLs in direct messages, but was later fixed. The private sharing of public tweets was also anticipated earlier this week.

Twitter is also planning on introducing native video in the first half of 2015, which would be an alternative to Vine or YouTube.

Nokia MixRadio

Microsoft rolling out Nokia MixRadio the Pandora-esque music streaming service that Microsoft acquired as part of its takeover of Nokia’s Devices and Services business, is close to being spun-out as a separate entity.

According to sources, Microsoft is in the midst of seeking out investors for an independent Nokia MixRadio. And, although nothing is official yet.

As it stands, the service, which comes in free and premium versions and lets you create a ‘radio station’ based on genre or similar artists, is chained to Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, after it originally came bundled with various Nokia Lumia handsets. Breaking free from Redmond would allow it to become platform agnostic.

Nokia MixRadio

Nokia MixRadio have deals in place with record labels/publishers, seeing its availability in 31 countries, the ex-Nokia unit also has legacy relationships with mobile operators, something that could be valuable as part of a much wider music services strategy.

The move to offload Nokia MixRadio would also make sense for Microsoft, considering that the service has overlap with its own home-grown and cross-platform music streaming service, Xbox Music, which makes it slightly odd that the Nokia Music unit was included in the Nokia Devices and Services acquisition in the first place.

Amazon Kindle

Amazon has made an update to Kindle app. It now allows sharing ebooks among family members. The new Family Library feature allows one to access ebooks “from the Amazon account of a spouse or partner.” Amazon's allowed loans of ebooks, under limited conditions, for a while now. But it's not been possible to enjoy permanent access to another person's library.

The new feature doesn't look like it's anywhere near the equivalent of being able to hand a book over to a friend of family member: it only kicks in once you enable the “Household” feature that lets one control the ebooks and other content that one's offspring are permitted to access.

Kindle update

That makes this new feature arguably less useful than a shared Amazon account and lots of Kindles: the company seems not to place a limit on how many devices – or virtual Kindles running software only.

Amazon is also not exactly on the bleeding edge here, as Apple's iOS 8 allows six family members to share content. And a calendar, a service Amazon doesn't currently offer.

The software update allowing Kindles to join the family will land without user intervention in coming weeks.

A thick rubber band connects to a slightly curved touchscreen display. But the Simband isn't a smartwatch at all, it isn't even a consumer device at this point. The Simband is intended to be used by those within the medical industry — startups and medical researchers alike — to develop new applications for sensor technology. It's part of the company's broader shift to move its wearables from fitness tracking to health monitoring with the goal of enabling preventive healthcare and wellness.

The screen of the simband displays the time, date and shortcuts to the device's three main functions: trends, monitor and spot check.

Putting the device into monitor mode activates all six of the Simband's sensors and displays a real-time feed of all the stats being collected.

But data means nothing if you can't understand it and the Simband's software does a pretty good job at putting the measurements into context. Aside from the onboard dashboard, this information can also be tracked on the web when the device has synced over wifi.

Google docs playback

Google docs will now play back all the changes that you have made. If you use are using Google Docs in the Chrome browser, a cool new extension will allow you to play back all the changes that you've made in a document as if it's a movie.

Writer and programmer James Somers reverse-engineered Google Docs and put together Draftback, which reveals a character-by-character history of documents.

It actually show you how you have been typing in the document what changes you made and what originally you were typing. Staring at a blank word-processing document can be a pretty intimidating starting point for a writer. This allows you to experience your entire creative process all over again, hands-free.

Google Doc playback
As per Somers, Google keeps a revision record of everything you've ever typed in Google Docs that's "accurate to the microsecond" since at least May 2010.

You can also use Draftback with any Google Doc that's shared with you. You can run the shared doc through Draftback and see all the typos of your unedited work.
